Md. Abbas is a hopeful 13-year-old Rohingya boy who dreams of becoming an Islamic scholar and lives with his parents and six siblings, including his youngest brother who has a physical disability. Because his father is physically unable to work, this family of nine has no earning member and depends entirely on World Food Programme (WFP) food assistance, making the cost of Abbas’s surgery completely beyond their means. After learning about Helpster Charity through the medical outreach at Kutupalong, the family sought support for his painful bilateral inguinal hernias. Without timely surgery, either hernia may become trapped or strangulated, causing severe pain, intestinal obstruction, loss of blood supply, and permanent bowel damage. Such complications may require emergency surgery and can become life-threatening

According to the doctor, bilateral inguinal herniotomy under anesthesia is recommended to repair the hernias on both sides and prevent serious complications. With successful surgery and proper postoperative care, Abbas is expected to become free from groin pain and swelling and gradually return to normal activities and studies. If left untreated, either hernia may become trapped or strangulated, cutting off the blood supply to the intestine. This can cause severe pain, intestinal obstruction, bowel tissue death, serious infection, and potentially life-threatening complications requiring emergency surgery.
