Mohammed R., 13

Mohammad Rahim is a kind and responsible 13-year-old Rohingya boy who lives with his parents and three younger siblings in the Kutupalong Refugee Camp, helping care for his family while dreaming of becoming a teacher. His father is the family's only earning member, working as a daily wage laborer with irregular income that is barely enough to provide food and other basic necessities, leaving the family unable to afford the cost of surgery, hospitalization, medicines, and follow-up care. After learning about Helpster Charity during a medical outreach program at Kutupalong, the family sought assistance in the hope of restoring Rahim's health and allowing him to return to school. Despite every effort, they have no savings and no access to nearby government hospitals capable of providing the specialized surgery he urgently needs. Without timely treatment, his third-degree complete rectal prolapse may lead to severe bleeding, strangulation of the prolapsed bowel, tissue death, serious infection, bowel obstruction, and other life-threatening complications, causing permanent disability and greatly affecting his future.

The recommended treatment is a Thiersch procedure under anesthesia to correct the third-degree complete rectal prolapse and restore the rectum to its normal position. With timely surgery, appropriate postoperative care, pain management, nutritional support, and regular follow-up, Mohammed Rahim is expected to recover well, regain normal bowel function, and return to his daily activities without pain or discomfort. If left untreated, the prolapsed rectum may become trapped (incarcerated) or lose its blood supply (strangulation), leading to tissue death, severe bleeding, bowel obstruction, infection, fecal incontinence, and life-threatening sepsis
