Mohammad Alam is a much-loved 3-year-old boy and the youngest of five siblings, living with his parents and four elder sisters after his family was recently forced to flee Myanmar and seek safety in a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh. Having no stable income or permanent home, the family depends entirely on World Food Programme food assistance for survival, making the cost of hospitalization and surgery completely beyond their means. After learning about Helpster Charity through the medical outreach at Kutupalong, his family sought support so Alam could receive the surgery he urgently needs. Without timely treatment, his inguino-scrotal hernia may suddenly become trapped, causing severe pain, intestinal obstruction, and loss of blood supply to the affected bowel. This can result in bowel tissue death, severe infection, emergency surgery, and potentially life-threatening complications.

Mohammed Alam, a 3-year-old refugee boy, was admitted to Orion Hospital on 21.09.2026 through Helpster volunteer Md Younus with left-sided groin and scrotal swelling that increased during crying or straining, intermittent pain and discomfort, and swelling that reduced on lying down or with gentle pressure. Following clinical assessment and diagnostic confirmation, he was diagnosed with Left-Sided Congenital Inguino-Scrotal Hernia. He underwent Left Inguinal-Scrotal Herniotomy under anesthesia on 23.09.2026, followed by postoperative pain and infection management, fluid therapy, counseling, and regular follow-up. After five days of hospital care, he improved satisfactorily and was discharged in stable condition on 26.09.2026. The treatment expenses were fully supported by Helpster Charity, and the family expresses sincere gratitude to Helpster, its volunteers, and the hospital team for their kind support and care.

According to the doctor, surgical repair (herniotomy) is the recommended treatment to correct Mohammed Alam’s inguino-scrotal hernia and prevent serious complications. With timely surgery and proper postoperative care, he is expected to recover well, become free from pain and swelling, and return to normal childhood activities. If left untreated, the hernia may become trapped or strangulated, cutting off the blood supply to the intestine. This can cause severe pain, intestinal obstruction, bowel tissue death, serious infection, and potentially life-threatening complications requiring emergency surgery.
