Ishita Akter J., 6

Ishita Akter Jannati is a 6-year-old girl who lives with her parents, Md. Nurunnabi and Shahinur Khatun, and her family in a tin-roofed house. Her father works as a construction worker and earns only approximately USD 59 per month, while her mother is a housewife, making it difficult for the family to meet basic needs and afford specialized medical treatment. Ishita has been suffering from severe lower abdominal pain, burning during urination, nausea, and recurrent urinary infections and was diagnosed with a duplex right kidney with right ureterocele and hydronephrosis. Without treatment, the obstruction could continue to impair urine flow, worsen kidney swelling, and increase the risk of recurrent infections and kidney damage. The family learned about Helpster Charity through hospital staff member M. Masud Molla, seeking support for the planned procedure to protect Ishita’s kidney and improve her health.

The child was admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of a right ureterocele along with a duplex system of the right kidney and right hydronephrosis. The child presented with a 2-month history of lower abdominal pain, a burning sensation during micturition, nausea, and anorexia, on a background of recurrent lower urinary tract infections. Following pre-operative investigations—including an abdominal ultrasound, chest X-ray, and Doppler echocardiogram—a Transurethral Deroofing of the Ureterocele with Right DJ Stenting was successfully performed by Dr. Nirupom Mondal on 27/07/2026 at 22:55. Following the surgery, the patient was managed with appropriate post-operative medications and monitoring. The patient was discharged in stable condition with an oral antibiotic regimen, urinary medications, and pain management instructions, with a planned follow-up for DJ stent removal after 45 days.

According to the doctor, transurethral deroofing of the right ureterocele with DJ stenting is expected to relieve the urinary obstruction, improve urine flow, and reduce the risk of recurrent urinary infections and further kidney swelling. With successful treatment and proper follow-up, including DJ stent removal after 45 days, the condition can be managed and kidney function protected. If left untreated, persistent obstruction may worsen hydronephrosis, cause recurrent urinary infections, and potentially lead to progressive damage to the affected kidney.
