Jamila Akter is a 10-year-old Grade 3 student who was previously healthy, active, and focused on her studies until she developed high fever and severe cough for eight days. Her father, Nasir Payda, is the sole earning member of the six-member family and earns only BDT 8,000 (about USD 66) per month, which is barely enough to support Jamila, her mother, two older siblings, and grandmother, leaving little ability to pay for hospitalization and treatment. She was diagnosed with typhoid fever after evaluation at Saheda Gafur Ibrahim General Hospital, during a seasonal outbreak associated with shared toilets, poor hygiene, and limited access to safe drinking water. Without timely treatment, typhoid can worsen and lead to serious complications, prolonged illness, and potentially life-threatening infection. The family learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Abdur Rahman, giving them hope of receiving the medical support Jamila needs.

Doctors have advised treatment with parenteral antibiotics along with supportive therapy to effectively control Jamila Akter’s typhoid infection. With timely and complete treatment, her fever will gradually subside, her strength will return, and she will be able to resume her studies and daily activities without long-term effects. Proper medical care will also prevent the infection from spreading and protect her vital organs. However, if left untreated, typhoid can lead to severe complications such as intestinal perforation, internal bleeding, bloodstream infection, and even become life-threatening. Early intervention is therefore essential to ensure her full recovery and safeguard her future health.
