Background
Tasnim Islam is a 12-year-old girl from a family of six living in Jafarbad, Kishoreganj. Her father, Md. Din Islam, is the sole earning member and works as a farmer, earning only approximately USD 65–81 per month, which is insufficient to meet the family's basic needs and afford urgent medical expenses. Tasnim developed severe abdominal pain and fever, but due to their financial hardship, her family initially relied on medicines from local village practitioners instead of seeking hospital care. Her condition worsened until her appendix ruptured, causing severe abdominal infection and requiring urgent surgery; with support from ABM Alamgir, she was brought to Al-Sunnah Hospital for treatment. Without timely surgery and infection control, the infection could spread and lead to sepsis, serious complications, and a potentially life-threatening condition.
Medical history
Tasnim Islam was admitted to Al Sunnah General Hospital on 28 July 2026 with severe abdominal pain and fever caused by a ruptured/perforated appendix. After proper evaluation and investigations, she underwent a laparoscopic operation on 29 July 2026. She remained under close medical observation and received the necessary medicines, antibiotics, and supportive treatment during her hospital stay. Gradually, her condition improved, her pain and fever subsided, and she recovered well. Tasnim was discharged from Al Sunnah General Hospital on 05 August 2026 in stable condition and returned home with her family.
Prognosis
According to the doctor, laparoscopic or open appendicectomy is expected to remove the ruptured appendix, control the source of infection, and allow recovery from the acute abdominal condition and peritonitis. With timely surgery, appropriate antibiotics, and postoperative monitoring, Tasnim is expected to recover and gradually return to her normal activities. If left untreated, the infection may continue to spread within the abdominal cavity, leading to worsening peritonitis, abscess formation, sepsis, organ dysfunction, and potentially life-threatening complications.
