Mohammad Arju is a 17-year-old boy from Geneva Camp who had to stop his education after completing Class 8 because of his ongoing health problems. He lives with his parents and two other family members in a five-member household; his father is the sole earning member, working as a day laborer and earning approximately USD 81 per month, which is barely enough to meet the family’s basic needs and cannot cover Arju’s medical expenses. Arju previously received medical support through the Helpster program under Helpster ID 6505 for meatal stenosis with chronic urinary retention and underwent surgery, but he has now developed another serious urinary complication. He is currently suffering from a severe UTI associated with bulbar urethral stricture and a suprapubic catheter, and requires definitive BMG urethroplasty after the infection is controlled. Without definitive treatment, recurrent infection and urinary obstruction could worsen, causing further kidney damage, serious complications, and potentially a life-threatening infection.

According to the doctor, urgent management of the severe urinary tract infection with the suprapubic catheter kept in place for adequate urinary drainage, followed by definitive BMG (buccal mucosal graft) urethroplasty after stabilization, is expected to control the infection and restore normal urinary flow. With appropriate treatment and follow-up, the patient is expected to recover and improve his urinary function. If left untreated, the severe infection and urinary obstruction may worsen, potentially causing recurrent infection, kidney damage, urinary retention, sepsis, and other serious complications. Timely treatment is therefore important to prevent long-term urinary and renal problems.
