Elvis is the youngest of five children and lives with his parents and siblings in a two-roomed mud-walled house without electricity. He is a calm and hardworking boy who enjoys drawing and playing football and dreams of becoming a pilot. His mother is a housewife, while his father is the family’s sole breadwinner, earning a modest and irregular income by working at another person’s homestead. Elvis developed recurrent fever and a persistent cough that progressively worsened. His mother initially gave him paracetamol and Piriton that were available at home, hoping his symptoms would improve. Instead, his fever became persistently high, the cough worsened and he became increasingly weak and exhausted. He developed poor appetite, reduced activity and spent most of his time lying down, unable to play or engage normally with his siblings. Concerned by his deteriorating condition, his mother brought him to the facility, where he appeared febrile, weak and visibly unwell, requiring prompt medical assessment and treatment. The family had learnt about Helpster Charity Organization from a neighbour whose child had previously received treatment at the facility with support from the charity.

Elvis was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, a serious lung infection requiring prompt inpatient treatment and close monitoring. His persistent high fever, worsening cough, marked weakness and reduced activity indicate significant illness. Without adequate treatment, severe pneumonia may progress to hypoxia, sepsis, respiratory failure or other life-threatening complications. Appropriate antibiotics, oxygen where indicated, hydration and supportive care are necessary. Prognosis is good
