Arifa A., 19

Arifa Akter is a 19-year-old young woman who was admitted to the hospital after developing fever, burning during urination, and lower abdominal pain that made her daily activities increasingly difficult. She lives with her father, mother, and 12-year-old brother, Jahid, who is studying in Class 4, while the family has no permanent home and lives in fragile conditions. Her father is the sole earning member and works as a hosiery worker, earning only approximately USD 57 per month, which is insufficient to meet the family’s basic needs and medical expenses. Despite her illness, Arifa remains hopeful about recovering and returning to her normal life, but the family cannot afford the treatment without assistance. She was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (UTI), and without timely treatment, the infection could spread to the kidneys or bloodstream, potentially causing serious complications such as kidney damage or sepsis. The family learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Masud Rana.

Hospitalization, parenteral antibiotic therapy, close monitoring, and appropriate supportive care are expected to control the urinary infection, relieve her symptoms, and prevent the infection from spreading. With timely treatment and proper follow-up, Arifa is expected to recover and return to her normal daily activities. If treatment is delayed or not provided, the infection may progress to the kidneys or bloodstream, potentially causing kidney damage, severe systemic infection, or sepsis. Timely treatment therefore offers the best opportunity for a safe and complete recovery.
