Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Baby of Sanjida Akhtar is a fragile 3-day-old newborn who has faced serious health challenges from the first days of life and requires urgent medical care. She lives with her parents, grandparents, and 14-year-old uncle in a five-member family, while her father, Kamal Hossain (28), is the main earner, working as a farmer and earning only about USD 73 per month, making unexpected medical expenses difficult to manage. Born at 41 weeks with a low birth weight of 1.7 kg, she experienced delayed crying followed by respiratory distress, rapid breathing, grunting, bluish discoloration of her hands and feet, poor activity, and difficulty feeding. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a volunteer at Dhaka Medical College and is seeking support because they cannot afford the cost of her necessary medical care. Without timely treatment, her respiratory distress, poor feeding, and signs of reduced oxygenation may worsen, potentially leading to severe hypoxia, respiratory failure, serious organ complications, and life-threatening deterioration.

Prognosis

NICU admission with broad-spectrum antibiotics, correction of metabolic abnormalities, adequate feeding, and close monitoring is expected to stabilize the newborn, control the infection, improve respiratory distress, and support healthy growth and development. With timely treatment, the baby is expected to improve gradually and can be shifted to the ward once clinically stable. If left untreated, pneumonia and low oxygen levels may worsen, leading to severe respiratory distress, hypoxia, feeding failure, sepsis, organ dysfunction, and potentially life-threatening complications.
