Mina A., 14

Mina Akter is a 14-year-old girl who lives with her parents in a three-member family under fragile living conditions without a permanent home. Her father, Kabir Hossain, is the sole earner and works as a day labourer, earning only about USD 57 per month, which is insufficient to meet the family’s basic needs and medical expenses. Mina has been experiencing pain in both breasts for about one month with occasional fever and was diagnosed with a right breast fibroadenoma and a cystic lesion in the left breast after evaluation at Narayanganj Poly Clinic General Hospital. Due to their financial hardship, the family cannot afford the required investigations and treatment and learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Masud Rana. Without appropriate medical evaluation and follow-up, her breast conditions may persist or worsen, causing continued pain and discomfort and potentially requiring more complex management.

Lumpectomy (excisional biopsy) under general anesthesia is expected to remove the fibroadenoma, relieve breast pain and discomfort, and allow examination of the removed tissue. With appropriate postoperative care and follow-up, Mina is expected to recover well and resume her normal activities. If left untreated, the fibroadenoma may persist or increase in size, potentially causing continued pain, discomfort, and further breast-related concerns.
