Humayra I., 21

Humayra Islam is a 21-year-old woman who lives with her parents and husband in a four-member family under fragile living conditions without a permanent home. Her husband, Nur Islam, is the sole earner, working as an auto-rickshaw driver and earning only about USD 57 per month, making it difficult to meet household needs and medical expenses. Humayra has been suffering from pain and swelling in the right buttock for 25 days, with redness for the past 5 days, and was diagnosed with a right-sided gluteal abscess. Due to their limited income, the family cannot afford her treatment and learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Masud Rana. Without timely treatment, the abscess may worsen and lead to serious infection and other complications.

Incision and drainage followed by wound debridement is expected to remove the infected material, control the abscess, reduce pain and swelling, and promote proper wound healing. With timely treatment and appropriate wound care, Humayra is expected to recover and gradually resume her normal daily activities. If left untreated, the abscess may enlarge and the infection can spread to surrounding tissues or the bloodstream, potentially causing serious systemic infection and other complications.
