Sohana Akter is a cheerful and active 7-year-old Grade 1 student who was previously well before suddenly developing loose, watery stools and abdominal pain. She lives with her parents, 5-year-old younger sister, and grandmother in a five-member family, while her father, Sohel (35), is the sole earner, working as a rickshaw puller and earning approximately USD 65–73 per month. With this limited income, the family struggles to meet daily household expenses and cannot afford the cost of Sohana’s medical treatment. She was brought to the hospital and diagnosed with acute watery diarrhea with severe dehydration, requiring timely hospital-based treatment, and the family learned about the Helpster Support Program through the hospital team. Without prompt treatment and rehydration, severe dehydration may rapidly progress to electrolyte imbalance, circulatory shock, organ dysfunction, and potentially life-threatening complications.

Hospitalization with proper hydration and supportive therapy is expected to restore Sohana’s fluid and electrolyte balance, improve her weakness and overall condition, and support recovery from acute watery diarrhea. With timely treatment and close monitoring, she is expected to stabilize and gradually return to normal feeding and daily activities. If left untreated, severe dehydration may worsen rapidly, causing electrolyte imbalance, reduced blood circulation, shock, altered consciousness, kidney dysfunction, and other potentially life-threatening complications.
