Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Romeo is a five-month-old boy and the younger of two children. He lives with his parents, sibling and extended family in a rural village. When well, he is playful and enjoys interacting with his family, particularly his mother. His mother is a homemaker, while his father relies on irregular work in the city to support the large household. His limited earnings are often insufficient to cover both food and medical expenses. Romeo developed fever, diarrhoea, general body weakness and convulsions over three days. His mother gave him paracetamol, but his condition continued to worsen, prompting her to seek medical care. He arrived at the hospital in critical condition and was actively convulsing and appeared to be struggling to breathe while being held by his mother. He was immediately transferred to the observation area, placed on an emergency bed and given oxygen as the medical team worked to stabilise him. Several investigations were conducted to determine the cause of his illness and guide treatment. Unable to afford the extensive care required, his mother requested assistance from Helpster Charity after being referred by a volunteer.

Prognosis

Romeo presented with pneumonia complicated by febrile convulsions, as evidenced by high fever, seizures, weakness, and respiratory symptoms. At her age, this is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that requires urgent inpatient care. He was appropriately admitted and started on antibiotic therapy, anticonvulsants to control seizures, fever management, and supportive care, including close monitoring of his vital signs and neurological status.
