Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Rahana lives in Gashua with her husband and five children in a one-room clay house with a thatched roof. Her husband does casual labour earning approximately 18,000 naira monthly, barely enough to meet their daily needs. Neither has a regular job. When Rahana fell seriously ill during her pregnancy, the cost of medical care was simply beyond what the family could manage. Rahana was admitted with severe antepartum pre-eclampsia complicated by fetal distress, placing both her life and that of her unborn baby at serious risk. Treatment was commenced urgently to control the pre-eclampsia, prevent seizures, and stabilise her condition under close monitoring.

Prognosis

Rahana presented with severe antepartum pre-eclampsia complicated by fetal distress, requiring urgent specialist management. Treatment included blood pressure control, seizure prophylaxis with magnesium sulphate, and close monitoring of both mother and baby. Without prompt intervention, her condition could have progressed to eclampsia, causing life-threatening seizures, stroke, organ failure, and death. Prognosis is fair to good provided she continues her medications, attends regular obstetric follow-up, and receives appropriate post-delivery care.
