Omoniyi A., 10

Omoniyi is an 11-year-old cheerful, energetic, and inquisitive boy currently attending Junior Secondary School. He lives with his mother, who runs a small kiosk nail business in front of their house. Omoniyi used to love playing football but had to stop due to eye problems. About two years ago, Omoniyi's parents noticed a corneal ulcer in his left eye and took him to the hospital. He was diagnosed with a Varicella-Zoster infection and Herpes Zoster affecting the left eye. Although the corneal ulcer eventually healed, it left behind corneal opacity. When Omoniyi presented at our facility, he was noted to have a healed corneal ulcer with resulting corneal opacity. He currently complains of reduced vision in his left eye. He requires surgery to correct the defects and restore his vision.

12year old Ahmad had significant corneal opacity, a surgical intervention, such as corneal transplantation (keratoplasty) is necessary to restore vision. He first had a surgical procedure (left upper lid electrolysis) done on the 22nd of July 2025 under general anesthesia. The surgical procedure went well with no complications, and patient was monitored in the hospital and later discharged home on the same day after he fully recovered from anesthesia. The boy has since been feeling much better, thanks to Helpster Charity. He however requires a corneal transplant to enhance his vision as he currently still has some corneal scarring.

In cases of significant corneal opacity, a surgical intervention, such as corneal transplantation (keratoplasty) is necessary to restore vision.
