Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.

That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Olaniyi Omolola is the first child in a family of 7. Her father struggles to make ends meet as a tailor, earning about ₦30,000 monthly, while her mother ekes out a living as a trader, scraping together ₦20,000 each month. Despite their tireless efforts, the family's financial situation remains precarious, making everyday life a challenge. The patient was presented to our hospital with a 6-month history of intermittent abdominal pain, which worsened recently, accompanied with fever and vomiting, after investigation was done she was diagnosed with Acute Appendicitis, requiring immediate surgical intervention.

Medical history

Miss Olaniyi Omolola presented to this facility on account of lower abdominal pain. Upon investigation, acute appendicitis was diagnosed. The patient was worked up for surgery and had an emergency appendectomy. Post-operatively, she was stable and was discharged in satisfactory clinical condition on oral antibiotics, analgesics, and routine wound dressing. She was counselled on adequate rest, avoidance of strenuous activities, and to present for follow-up care in the hospital.

Prognosis

Olaniyi Omolola prognosis is good with prompt surgical intervention and proper postoperative care. Early treatment is likely to result in a full recovery without complications. Conversely, delayed management may lead to increased risks of perforation, peritonitis, or abscess formation, emphasizing the importance of timely medical attention.
