Chrispinus N., 17

Chrispinus is the 3rd born in a family of six siblings. He lives with his parents and paternal grandparents. He is a high school student and would like to be a pilot when he grows up. Chrispinus has been unwell for the past week and initially did not come to hospital because his parents are unable to afford the medical treatment; he took some pain killer medications, but there has been no improvement. His school fees are paid by a government bursary program, and his favorite subject is Mathematics. He was accepted to the hospital with a headache, joint pains and chest pains. Admission date - 19 Jun 2023

His father was initially worried that he was not going afford the hospital fee since just a few days ago he had spent some money to treat the child for febrile convulsion before Chrispinus also developed joint pain and chest pain. He was happy to realize that Helpster Charity was assisting patients at Bokoli Subcounty Hospital and that He did not have to pay for the treatment. Child had initially been treated for pneumonia, but unfortunately he also developed headache and vomiting which made his condition worse. Returned to the hospital and was treated, after being diagnosed with malaria too. Child progressed well.

The patient has been diagnosed with severe malaria. His condition is worsening. Had he come earlier, he would have been put on oral medications, but now requires urgent treatment as an in-patient so that his condition does not get worse. If left untreated, the infection may lead to several organ disfunction and failure.
