Background

Her mother had been giving her analgesics to relieve the pain, but over the past few days, Shantel's condition worsened, prompting her mother to bring her to the hospital. At the hospital, it was discovered that Shantel was also undernourished, which had weakened her immune system. She was diagnosed with malaria and treated with supplemental feeds and malaria medication. After receiving nutritional counseling, Shantel and her mother were discharged. A week later, Shantel was reviewed and it was confirmed that she was doing well.
Outcome
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
