Jibril O., 15

Jibril is a polite and kind boy who enjoys playing football and does really well in school. He dreams of becoming a doctor one day. Recently, he got really sick with high fevers, body aches all over, no appetite, and vomiting. The school nurse recommended he come to our hospital for help.

Jibril started having high temperature and severe body aches. He had a loss of appetite and was vomiting after oral intake. He went to the school clinic and was referred to our health facility for further management by the school clinic nurse. Jibril comes from a low income family and his parents were unable to send money required for his treatment. He was diagnosed to be suffering from severe malaria, was admitted and put on medication on time. The boy recovered well and was now able to afford a smile. He has since resume classes

Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicaemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
