His family relies heavily on humanitarian assistance from non-governmental organizations for both shelter and food, having lost all their means of livelihood due to the ongoing insurgency by Boko Haram in their community. Ibrahim enjoys eating and playing around the compound with neighboring children. He dreams of becoming a pilot in the future. This morning, Ibrahim was brought in with severe cough attacks accompanied by vomiting, fever, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. The illness began just three days ago, but his condition worsened this morning as he developed breathing difficulties. After examination and investigations, he was diagnosed with pertussis complicated by acute plasmodiasis.

Treatment for pertussis, or whooping cough, primarily involves antibiotics to help control the infection and reduce the spread of the disease. Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
