Evaline A., 16

Evaline lives with her father and siblings. She helps her father around the house with household chores whenever she is not doing her homework or playing with her friends. She would like to be a teacher when she grows up. She had complains of blood stained diarrhea which was associated with abdominal pain. Evaline was also vomiting and slowly started having general body weakness. Her father tried giving her some herbal medicine but there was no improvement, instead she got worse by the day, before she was brought to the hospital.

Evaline experienced bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, body weakness, and vomiting. She was assessed and tested, leading to a diagnosis of amoebic dysentery. Due to significant fluid loss, she was treated with intravenous fluids for rehydration, as well as antibiotics to treat the infection, antiemetics to control vomiting, and painkillers for her discomfort. She was monitored for three days and then discharged to continue her medications at home. A follow-up phone call to her mother confirmed that Evaline was recovering well.
