Elisha O., 3

Three-year-old Elisha is an orphan; sadly, he lost his mother at birth, and no one knows his father. He has been in living in an orphanage since he was just two weeks old, when good samaritans brought him to the orphanage. With no known relatives visiting or claiming him, he has no place to call home outside the orphanage. The orphanage relies on well wishers to feed, clothe and educate the children living there. Recently, Elisha became restless and cried continuously while refusing to eat. He developed diarrhea and vomiting, prompting his caregiver to rush him to a medical facility for treatment. After being observed for some time, he was given oral medication and later discharged.

Elisha was brought to the hospital with complaints of fever, episodes of diarrohea and not feeding well. He was received in the outpatient department, and his blood work showed he had amoeba. He was then given medication and discharged to recover at home. He lives in the orphanage, and the person in charge of the orphanage confirmed that Elisha had indeed recovered and was able to feed very well.

The child was brought to the facility with complaints of vomiting everything, passing loose stool which is mucoid and had general body malaise. The child was lethargic with poor skin turgor, sunken eyes and cracked lips - a sign of dehydration. From the examination, the child needed urgent treatment since he had lost a lot of fluids and electrolytes which if went untreated can cause more infections leading to poor prognosis and may end up loosing the child. A diagnosis of Amoebiasis was made after laboratory investigations was done.
