Maryam Abubakar is a 3-year-old girl living with her parents in Bauchi State, Nigeria. Her family, like many in the region, faces significant economic challenges that impact their daily lives and future prospects. Maryam, who is out of school, hopes to be in school someday and become a medical doctor. Her family find comfort in seeing her happy and healthy. One evening, she began to complain of fever, stomach pain, and a persistent cough. By morning, her abdomen was swollen, and her condition had worsened. At night, she had developed a high fever and a dry cough. Her breathing became shallow, and her belly began to swell. Her parents tried to soothe her with local remedies, but nothing worked. By morning, Maryam was too weak to sit up. The parent was informed of Helpster Charity before they rushed her to get medical attention. After evaluation, the child was diagnosed with Malaria and RTI.

Maryam was treated at Albisbir Hospital for Malaria and a Respiratory Tract Infection (RTI) with support from Helpster Charity. She received antimalarial drugs, antibiotics, and supportive care. Her health improved quickly, and she made a full recovery.

With early hospital admission and proper treatment, her condition began to improve. With timely medical care, hydration, and close monitoring, Maryam responded well to antimalarial and antibiotic therapy. Her fever reduced, her breathing improved, and the abdominal distention subsided. Her prognosis is positive. With continued care, proper nutrition, and follow-up, Maryam is expected to make a full recovery and regain her strength in the coming weeks.
