Rita N., 12

Rita is a 12-year-old girl from a rural village and the second of five siblings. Her father is a farmer. Living with sickle cell disease, Rita had lost hope for the future—believing that people with her condition rarely live past the age of 20. She had been unwell for two days when she came to the hospital. Although she is a known sickle cell patient, she had never attended the monthly clinic, as her family was unaware of it. During this visit, she was introduced to Helpster Charity, which provided her with free medical services. Due to her chronic illness, Rita has struggled to attend school consistently because she is always falling sick. It took a 30-minute counseling session to help her understand that with regular medication and proper medical care, she can live a long and fulfilling life. She was diagnosed and given appropriate medication during her visit.

Rita is a known Sickler and was diagnosed with painful crisis she was given drugs to take home , also advised to continue with outpatient sickle cell clinic. During the check-up call, the Helpster volunteer heard from Rita's mother she is now fully recovered and back to his normal life. mother says “I can’t describe just how worried I was when my son got sick, and wasn’t getting better as I was treating him with drugs from near by chemists. I would like to appreciate Helpster Charity on their support. Thank you.”

Rita was given medication and her acute illness will be resolved If she remains compliant to her medication, she will be able to live with sickle cell without frequently falling ill
