Why is treatment done earlier than admission?
Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background
Joyce is the firstborn in a family of five children. Her mother earns a living by washing clothes for neighbors, while her father works at a gold mining site. Joyce is a quiet and reserved girl who speaks very little. She enjoys reading and playing volleyball at school, and she hopes to become a nurse after completing her education. Joyce began experiencing sudden chest pain accompanied by a cough while at school. At first, she thought the pain would go away on its own. However, after three days the pain worsened. She took a tablet of paracetamol that she received from a neighbor, but the pain did not improve. Shortly afterward, she began experiencing several episodes of vomiting and diarrhea. Concerned about her condition, her mother took her to the health facility for medical evaluation. At the facility, she was attended to and underwent several laboratory investigations, including a sputum test for GeneXpert. After assessment, she was diagnosed with septicemia and bronchitis. Joyce’s family learned about Helpster Charity through a community health volunteer who had previously worked with the organization during community outreach activities. The volunteer informed them that Helpster Charity supports vulnerable patients who cannot afford medical care and encouraged them to seek assistance. Through this referral, Joyce was able to access the medical support she needed.
Medical history
Joyce was diagnosed with Bronchitis and Septicemia. She spent 4 days in the hospital and was discharged on the 5th day.She was treated with antibiotics for the infection, rehydrated to compensate for the fluids and electrolytes lost during gastroenteritis, she has now gone back to school where she goes in the morning and comes back in the evening. She shares with her friends the health lessons she learnt at the hospital about hygiene and keeping warm to prevent being affected by cold. She has gone back to her normal life.A call was made to confirm if she had gone for the Covid test and chest xray but the mother reported that they didnt manage due to lack of transport and money to pay for chest xray test.
Outcome
The presence of bronchitis suggests that the respiratory tract was inflamed and likely served as a source of infection. The detection of septicaemia indicates that the infection had spread into the bloodstream, which can significantly affect the body’s organs if not treated quickly. Joyce’s symptoms of chest pain, vomiting, and diarrhea also suggested that the infection was already placing stress on her body. Before treatment was initiated, Joyce’s prognosis was guarded but potentially favorable with timely intervention. Septicaemia can progress rapidly and may lead to serious complications such as organ dysfunction if not treated early. However, because Joyce presented to the health facility and the condition has been identified through laboratory investigations, the chances of recovery are significantly improved with prompt medical management.
