Halima B., 8

Eight-year-old Halima Begum is a calm and gentle girl who studies in class three and enjoys playing with other children, especially her younger brother Sufian. Her father, Abdus Sohid, works as a local imam and earns around 6,000 BDT per month, which barely covers the basic needs of their four-member family living in a small tin-made house with a muddy floor, leaving no savings for medical treatment. When Halima fell from a height while playing and injured her arm, she developed severe pain and swelling, and her parents became worried as they could not afford the necessary medical care. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Helpster volunteer Tanjila Shahin Ema, who guided them to seek support for Halima’s treatment. Without proper medical care, the injury could heal incorrectly and may leave Halima with long-term pain or limited movement in her arm, affecting her daily life and childhood activities

The patient Halima Begum 8 years old admitted at Seba Hospital on 7th March 2026 with the complaint of pain and swelling at right elbow. At the hospital after clinical evaluation and x-ray confirm the diagnosis of lower end of humerus which is closed. Initially the patient received emergency treatment pain killer, antibiotic and the patient received long arm backslab on 8th March 2026 after pain subside. The was stable after back slab and the patient discharged with advice on 8th March 2026. The patient and their family expressed gratitude to Helpster volunteer Ema and to the hospital team for the kind support.

The doctor has advised treatment with a long arm back slab along with conservative and supportive therapy, with proper monitoring. This treatment will help stabilize the injured elbow, reduce pain and swelling, and allow the bone and surrounding tissues to heal properly. With timely treatment and regular follow-up, the child is expected to gradually regain normal movement and function of the arm. However, if the injury is left untreated, it may lead to improper healing, persistent pain, deformity, or permanent limitation of arm movement. Early treatment and monitoring are therefore very important for the child’s full recovery.
