Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Muntasir Mahmud Mezba is a fragile one-month-old infant whose life has already been filled with medical challenges, yet he remains the center of hope for his parents, sister Jannatul, and grandmother. His father, Abdul Malek, is a sick day laborer earning around 6,000 BDT per month and is the sole provider for the family, making it impossible to afford the costly treatment after already spending everything on his newborn’s survival. Living in extreme hardship, the family struggles daily just to meet basic needs, leaving no means for specialized eye care. Muntasir has been diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity in both eyes, and without urgent treatment, he may permanently lose his vision and face lifelong blindness. After learning about Helpster Charity through volunteers Al Amin and Nasima Akhter, the family is now seeking support to save their child’s sight and give him a chance at a normal future.

Medical history

Muntasir Mahmud Mezba, a 1-month-old baby boy, was admitted for urgent management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in both eyes, a condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. After thorough evaluation, he received Anti-VEGF injection on 26.02.2026, administered by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, the hospital’s ROP Specialist. The treatment process was carefully planned and executed, with close monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. During his stay, his response to the treatment was positive, showing encouraging signs of recovery. The abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels has now been successfully controlled. His retinal condition has improved significantly, and doctors are hopeful that he will develop clear vision in the future. He was discharged in stable condition with advice for regular follow-up, and heartfelt thanks go to Helpster Charity and Helpster Heroes for making this life-changing treatment possible.

Outcome

According to Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sheikh, Chief Consultant, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, ROP Specialist at Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, Muntasir urgently requires Anti-VEGF injections such as Avastin in both eyes, followed by regular follow-up examinations to monitor retinal development. The doctors are hopeful that timely treatment can stop the abnormal blood vessel growth and preserve his vision, allowing him to grow up normally, recognize his family, and attend school in the future. However, the doctors have clearly warned that any delay in treatment may result in irreversible retinal damage and lifelong blindness. The total cost of the required injection and follow-up care is approximately BDT 18,000, which is far beyond the financial capacity of this struggling family. With compassionate support from generous donors, Muntasir can receive the urgent treatment he needs and be given the priceless gift of sight — the chance to see his mother’s face, his sister’s smile, and the world ahead of him.
