Linet A., 18

Linet is the second-born child in a family of five children. Following the separation of her parents in 2025, she remained under the care of her mother. However, when her mother relocated to Nairobi for employment as a house help, Linet was left in the care of her maternal grandmother, a peasant farmer. They live in a modest two-roomed mud-walled house. Linet enjoys listening to music and dreams of becoming a fashion designer in the future. While still in school, Linet began experiencing headaches, vomiting, and loss of appetite after missing her menstrual period for one month. Suspecting that she might be pregnant, she sought permission from the school matron and class teacher to visit a nearby pharmacy, where a urine pregnancy test confirmed the pregnancy. She initially kept the information to herself but later confided in a friend, who encouraged her to attend antenatal care clinics. Linet followed this advice and attended ANC services regularly throughout her pregnancy. When she went into labour, she was admitted to the labour ward for delivery. However, despite being in labour, the baby failed to descend through the birth canal. Due to prolonged labour and signs of fetal distress, an urgent surgical intervention was performed to ensure the safe delivery of the baby.

The overall prognosis for a patient with prolonged labour undergoing emergency caesarean section is guarded to good, depending on the duration of labour, presence of infection or haemorrhage, maternal condition at surgery, and the baby's condition at delivery. Early surgical intervention generally results in favourable maternal and neonatal outcomes. Linet received prompt medical intervention and successfully underwent a caeserean surgery, she is expected to make a full recovery with proper post operation management
