Why is treatment done earlier than admission?

Sometimes, when a case is urgent and vital, hospitals may proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalization of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts.
That's why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Angel is an 11-year-old girl with hearing impairment who lives with her grandmother, the sole provider for the family. She is the youngest of two siblings and was abandoned by her teenage mother at the age of one. Her grandmother survives by doing casual jobs, and the family often struggles to meet basic needs, sometimes going without meals. Through the support of a well-wisher, Angel secured sponsorship to attend a special school for children with disabilities. She enjoys playing football, dancing, and dreams of becoming a teacher. Angel was brought to the hospital by the matron from her special school after developing fever, severe headache, joint pains, vomiting, and abdominal pain that had worsened over two days. She had not received any medication before presentation and had no history of blood transfusion or drug allergies. Following clinical examination and laboratory investigations, she was diagnosed with severe malaria and septicemia. Due to the seriousness of her condition, she was admitted for urgent treatment and close monitoring. As her grandmother could not afford the cost of care, Helpster Charity Organization supported her treatment, enabling her to receive the lifesaving medical care she required.

Medical history

The patient was admitted with symptoms suggestive of systemic infection, including fever and general body weakness. Upon evaluation, a diagnosis of septicemia and severe malaria was made, and immediate treatment was initiated. The patient was started on medication to support recovery. During the hospital stay, the patient was closely monitored, and there was steady improvement in clinical condition, with reduction in fever and restoration of strength. By 11/06, the patient was clinically stable, with normalizing vital signs and improved general well-being. The patient was discharged on oral cefuroxime to complete the course of antibiotics, with advice on adherence to medication and follow-up care. Overall, the recovery was satisfactory with no complications noted.

Prognosis

Angel presented with features consistent with septicemia and malaria, including weakness, prolonged headache, and general deterioration over several days. She was promptly admitted and started on intravenous antibiotics, fluids, and close monitoring to control the infection and prevent progression to severe complications such as septic shock or organ failure. Early hospital-based management is critical in improving outcomes in such case Her prognosis is good
