Mst. Surmi Khatun is a 16-year-old first-time mother who hopes for a safe delivery and a healthy beginning for her unborn child despite her family’s difficult circumstances. Her husband is the family’s only earning member and works as a day laborer, but his irregular income is barely enough for their basic needs, leaving them unable to afford the necessary maternity and delivery care. After learning about Helpster Charity, the family sought assistance through Bablu Abdullah, who visited their home and verified their financial hardship. At 35 weeks of pregnancy, Surmi’s baby is in a breech position, which increases the risk of complications during labor and requires careful medical supervision and delivery planning. Without appropriate care, both mother and baby may face serious complications, including obstructed labor, birth injury, fetal distress, oxygen deprivation, severe maternal bleeding, and potentially life-threatening outcomes.

The attending doctor has advised LUCS (Lower Uterine Cesarean Section) as the safest mode of delivery, given that the fetus is in breech presentation at 35+ weeks of gestation. In such cases, cesarean delivery significantly reduces the risks associated with vaginal breech birth, particularly for a primigravida patient. Timely LUCS can help ensure the safe delivery of the baby, minimizing the chances of birth trauma, oxygen deprivation (birth asphyxia), and fetal distress. If left unmanaged and labor progresses naturally, there is a high risk of serious complications. The baby may suffer from trauma, asphyxia, or even death, while the mother may face life-threatening conditions such as severe hemorrhage, uterine rupture, or infection.
