Bringing Care to Kuywa: Helpster & Partners Deliver Vital Medicare to 595 Patients in Kenya

On 13 September 2025, Helpster Charity partnered with Handprints Society to conduct a free medical outreach at Kuywa Primary School in Webuye, Kenya. The outreach was designed to reach vulnerable populations in Kuywa, a remote community where access to healthcare is both scarce and unaffordable for many.

Handprints Society, a community-driven organisation focused on health and education, co-sponsored the project while Helpster supplied essential medications and facilitated a two-day community sensitisation exercise. This ensured local residents, particularly families with children and young adults, were aware of the medical outreach and encouraged to seek care for acute conditions that had gone untreated due to financial constraints.
Over the course of the camp, a total of 595 individuals received medical attention. Services included general consultations, diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, jigger treatment, and community health education. Conditions treated ranged from respiratory infections, gastroenteritis, eye and dental disorders, asthma and hypertension to more complex cases such as sickle cell disease and tumours.

Three young patients were referred for advanced care: a 12-year-old with a maxillofacial tumour, an 18-year-old with an enlarged spleen and sickle cell disease, and a 13-year-old with cellulitis of the lower limb. These referrals underscored the life-saving role of the medical camp in bridging healthcare gaps for the most vulnerable.
Reflecting on the outreach, Dr Beatrix Atieno, Helpster’s Country Manager in Kenya, said: “Kuywa is a community where many live with treatable conditions simply because healthcare is beyond their reach. By working together with local partners like Handprints Society, we are bringing real hope to families and ensuring that no child or young adult is left behind in accessing the care they deserve. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this project, especially our volunteers”.

Since launching its outreach programme in 2023, Helpster has reached over 6,000 people across Africa and Asia. Beyond its app and website, which connect vulnerable patients with donors worldwide, Helpster remains committed to physically delivering healthcare where it is needed most.
