According to the WHO, almost 50 percent of Kenya's population lack access to vital medicare. A number of contributing factors- financial constraints, inadequate health insurance and geographical barriers. Consequently, many indigent Kenyans cannot access healthcare, and this leads to preventable deaths.
Kenya is one of our focus countries, and the reason is obvious: it is yet to achieve universal health coverage, which makes the poor unable to access essential medicare. Helpster is solving this problem by connecting underprivileged children and pregnant women to donors.
In a report by the UN Development Programme, 36 percent of Kenyans live below the national poverty line. This means over 20 million struggle to feed, and are unable to access needed medicare. As one of the charity organisations in Kenya, Helpster supports this class of people with medicare funding and enlightenment to quicken their emancipation from poverty. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and key partnerships, we're bringing succour to Kenya's most vulnerable.
How Helpster is Creating Impact in Kenya
Helpster is on the list of top charities focused on healthcare in Kenya. Since inception, we've admitted over 500 cases in Kenya. With a 62.5 percent admission rate, we've attended to several medical conditions, including appendicitis, pneumonia, malaria, typhoid, severe hernia, blood diseases, urology surgeries, fractures, liver/kidney diseases, etc, with an average life-saving cost of 200 USD.
Our cases in Kenya
Our initiatives are focused on making healthcare accessible to those who need it the most but cannot afford it. We create lasting impact in Kenyan communities through two core programmes:
- 1. Healthcare Funding:
We get cases through our network of volunteers and local partners. We assess the cases against set admission criteria, such as poverty scoring, case urgency, cost, etc.
If a case satisfies the admission conditions, it is uploaded on our website and app for funding. Cases are thoroughly verified before admission and donations go directly to the hospitals for treatment, with 5-7 percent catering to transaction charges and currency exchange losses.
With our reliable system, transparency is assured and impact is guaranteed, as donors are able to track real-time the difference their donations are making, and this makes us a medical charity choice in Kenya. Our impact in the communities is driven by innovative technology, volunteering and strategic local partnerships. - 2. Regular Medical Outreaches:
In addition to our main programme of funding medicare, we conduct free regular medical outreaches in remote areas in Kenya.
We've organised 3 outreaches so far, impacting over 400 people. Our last outreach was in Dandora Phase 5 Slums, Nairobi, in October 2024, and we offered medical services to over 230 Kenyans.
At these outreaches, we provide medical screening, diagnosis, treatment and health sensitisation.
