Helpster Charity brings free healthcare to Ikosi Community in Lagos

The initiative, supported by Redus Centre for Digestive Health and the Rotary Clubs of Ikeja GRA and Maryland, brought together healthcare professionals to provide medical screenings, consultations, and referrals for individuals requiring further care – to be funded by the charity.

As part of the effort to democratize healthcare access, the charity also facilitated donation of essential medical supplies, including medications and basic medical instruments, to support the Primary Health Centre’s ongoing delivery of subsidized healthcare services within the community.

The outreach focused on improving access to early diagnosis and care, particularly for underserved residents who may experience barriers to timely treatment.

Speaking on the initiative, Perpetua Mbanefo, Nigeria Country Manager, Helpster Charity, noted:

“At Helpster Charity, we have supported over 3,037 individuals including young children and pregnant mothers across Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Kenya to access life-saving medical care, and initiatives like this allow us to bring that impact closer to our communities.

“As Nigeria continues to make progress toward democratizing healthcare, partnerships like this play an important role in ensuring that access to quality care is not limited by income, but available to everyone who needs it.”

Also speaking, Okunade, Medical Officer of Health, Ikosi Primary Health Centre, highlighted the importance of collaboration:

“We appreciate this partnership with Helpster Charity and its sponsors. Initiatives like this support the work we do at the Ikosi Primary Health Centre by extending services to more residents and enabling early detection and referrals. This kind of collaboration is important in strengthening healthcare delivery at the community level.”

Commenting on the initiative, Victoria Ushebi, PR Manager, Helpster Charity, added:

“At Helpster Charity, we believe that access to healthcare is a basic human right, not a privilege. Through our work, we are able to support individuals who would otherwise be unable to access or afford life-saving treatment, ensuring they receive timely care when it matters most.

“Initiatives like this outreach allow us to extend that impact at the community level, while contributing to broader global efforts to improve health outcomes and expand equitable access to care, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being.”

The outreach provided general health consultations and basic screenings, with cases requiring further medical attention identified for follow-up and funding by the charity.

The initiative forms part of Helpster Charity’s broader work to improve access to healthcare through technology-enabled medical support.

To date, the organization has facilitated and funded care for over 3,037 individuals across Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Kenya, contributing to global efforts to improve health outcomes and expand equitable access to essential services, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal on access to good health and well-being.
