He Carried Pain for 13 Years— Now, He Walks in Freedom

Impact stories
At just 18 years old, Olori Ayomide has already lived through more pain than most experience in a lifetime. A kind-hearted student with a bright mind and big dreams, Ayomide has always loved reading, watching sports and spending time with his friends. But for over 13 years, a painful, growing lump on his right buttock shadowed every part of his life physically, emotionally and socially.
This wasn’t just discomfort; it was a silent torment that disrupted his childhood, stole his confidence, and left him watching from the sidelines as life passed him by. The swelling kept growing worse with each passing year. His family, burdened by financial constraints, couldn’t afford the required surgery. And so, Ayomide learned to live with pain. Until Helpster learned his story.
Moved by his quiet strength and resilience, Helpster Charity stepped in. We arranged for Ayomide to be admitted to Divine Amazing Grace Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, where he underwent a biopsy and eventually, life-changing surgery. The 1,080 USD procedure was covered entirely thanks to Helpster donors and a generous discount from the hospital.

On April 12, 2025, Ayomide’s decade-long pain came to an end. The surgery was a success, and for the first time in years, he could sit, walk and rest without discomfort. His smile returned. His eyes sparkled. His steps carried not pain, but purpose.
“This is a miracle,” his family said, overcome with emotion. They expressed deep gratitude to Helpster for not just funding a surgery but restoring their son’s future.

Ayomide is now focused, healthy and excited about the life ahead. There’s still healing to do, especially emotionally, but the shame and isolation have been replaced by confidence and hope.

Sadly, his story isn’t unique. Across Nigeria, children suffer in silence with treatable conditions because access to quality healthcare is out of reach. But with the support of our donors and hospital partners, Helpster Charity is changing that, one child at a time.
From Maiduguri to Lagos, we’re expanding our network of hospitals, volunteers, and community partnerships to bring healing to the most vulnerable corners of Nigeria. We believe every child deserves a chance, not just to survive, but to thrive.

To our donors, partners and supporters: thank you for helping Ayomide, and so many others, step into the light of a new beginning. See Ayomide’s case here. To save a life, make a donation here.
