Shila, aged 23 from Bangladesh, got married at 15 and studied up to the 6th standard grade at school. She lives together with her 3-year-old daughter and her husband, Mirazul, who is 24 years old. Mirazul is the only breadwinner in their family. He is working hard as a decorator Mistry (sweet maker) in the local shop. He earns from 3000 to 5000 Bangladeshi taka per month.

Shila: “We don't have our own house. We live in a 2-room tin sheet house in a village presented to us by the Government. We don't have to pay rent, but we need to cover the electricity bill, which is around 100-200 taka. We don’t have TV or radio. We use a button phone as a means of communication and spend 100 taka per month on calls. We spend around 3000 taka on food; the water is free, we can easily get it from the tubewell outside. We are happy with our lives, but still cannot get free treatment (Government hospitals are not free, and very often there are long lines of patients, lack of doctors, medicines, and equipment, and bad service. Sometimes people die in the streets, the ambulance never comes to poor people, as there is a lack of ambulance cars as well.”

Shila was lucky to meet RUDO Hospital's health workers that are partners of Helpster Charity who came to their village to tell about their non-profit partner organization Helpster Charity. Immediate actions were needed as there was already an increased risk of fetal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. If not for Helpster no one knows what could have happened with them.

Cesarean section operation is required to save the life of the mother and the baby. The Cesarean section took about 50 minutes. This was done through a spinal block where the pregnant woman was not under general anesthesia. Catheters were used to drain urine. Abdominal skin was cleaned with antiseptic. A very experienced surgeon was called to action, as then an operation on about 6 inches of the lower abdomen was needed. Then the baby was taken out after the same surgery in the uterus. The result was stunning, the baby was born safe. However, when Shila will have to be admitted to the hospital in two weeks.

Dr.Arif visited the family after 27 days past the surgery date. Dr. Arif talked to the family. Shila looked better than he could ever imagine. Seeing the 27 days old baby was the happiest thing that day for Dr.Arif.

Dr.Arif: “Shila and her family do perfectly well, the baby grows each day. The family is very grateful to Helpster Charity and RUDO Hospital. They tell the story to their neighbors and friends and help other poor people to get necessary medical treatment in a trusted hospital and with the support of Helpster Charity.”

Shila: “I was very worried while pregnant. My husband had no financial condition. I didn't take any treatment during pregnancy. I didn't take any medicine. I thought that I would deliver normally, but I got more worried because the delivery date was over. Then Cesarean section operation was done. I am very happy. Thanks to Helpster Charity!”

Now she and her baby are safe and well thanks to the Helpster Heroes that make donations.
