Mary is a 12-year-old girl who was born and raised in Nigeria. She lost her father in 2018 and has been living with her mother since then. Being a petty trader with a low income, Mary’s mother had a hard time providing for her family.
Three months ago, Mary started experiencing severe abdominal pain on a daily basis and had to stop attending school. After a medical examination, she was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and was treated with medication. However, the medication only provided temporary relief and the surgery was required for a successful recovery.
Unfortunately, medical treatment in Nigeria is mostly provided by private hospitals and must be paid for. Mary's mother could not afford the surgery, which put Mary's health at risk.
Thankfully, a Helpster volunteer in Nigeria was able to assist Mary's case and submit it for our program. Using the Helpster platform, we were able to gather enough funds to cover the cost of Mary's surgery, which was conducted at the Divine Amazing Grace Hospital in Nigeria.
Mary's mother, Mrs. Adelowo, expressed her gratitude:
"I am using this chance to sincerely thank Helpster and the Divine Amazing Grace Hospital for their care and for saving my daughter's life. If not for Helpster, we would have continued depending on drugs which could only provide her temporary relief. With the surgery, she is back to life. I appreciate your organization greatly and I pray that the members of the Helpster team live in great joy."
After the successful surgery, Mary returned to her normal life and is now able to continue with her education. We are glad that we could help Mary and her family during this difficult time and we hope that our program can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most.
