How a volunteer can avoid emotional burnout?

Volunteers are real superheroes. But sometimes they need support too because people who help others often experience emotional burnout. We have found a couple of tips that can help avoid this condition.

1. Becoming a volunteer is a challenging decision. At the very beginning, it's important to answer the question of what you want to gain from this experience. Then, objectively compare your interests, capabilities, and free time.

2. Determine how much time you are willing to dedicate to volunteering. Ensure that you have time for yourself and hobbies after work. It's better to review your schedule several times a month, especially if you feel that managing your volunteer activities has become more challenging.

3. Discuss your work to better understand your emotions. Does volunteering still bring you joy? Don't hesitate to share your experiences, especially with other volunteers. Also, talk about any issues with the organization you are volunteering for.

4. Define boundaries clearly. You should understand your responsibilities and the scope of your duties. Avoid taking on too much and communicate openly and honestly about what you would like to do.

5. Don't forget about basic rules. Even during challenging work, strive to have proper meals and sleep, drink plenty of clean water, and engage in physical activity.
